Leadership: High Discipline/High Morale
My leadership philosophy centers on guiding people to achieve positive results. I’ve drawn inspiration from industry giants like Dan Scoggins, the founder of TGI Friday’s, who has been a mentor to me. Effective leadership is about inspiring and energizing others. My proudest achievements are the many mid-level and senior leaders in this industry whom I’ve had the privilege to develop, grow, and learn from over the years.
My Career
I began my journey in the restaurant industry as a shift leader with an African-American franchisee of McDonald’s in the inner city of St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout my 35+ years in the industry, I’ve never forgotten the experiences at each level of my career. I’ve had the opportunity to work with great brands like Marriott Host, Darden (Casa Gallardo), TGI Friday’s, Boston Hospitality, and Cracker Barrel. Additionally, I served as President & CEO of St. Louis Petroleum & Marketing Inc., a regional petroleum company, for seven years.
CEO of St. Louis Petroleum and Marketing, Inc. – My Seven-Year Lesson
With no prior experience in the petroleum industry, I was recruited for my legacy and leadership skills by Clark Oil and Bank of America. I became the CEO of a $40 million petroleum company, overseeing 25 gas stations/convenience stores and a restaurant brand.
Missing the Restaurant World – Creating My Own Brand
After leading St. Louis Petroleum and Marketing, Inc., I felt a strong desire to return to the restaurant industry. I founded Village Cafe, a five-restaurant concept in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, which I owned and operated from 2004 to 2008.
Cracker Barrel Calling
In 2008, I was recruited by Cracker Barrel, where I received multiple operational awards as both Regional Vice President and Divisional Vice President. I recently retired from Cracker Barrel in May 2022 to start my own consulting business, ReCee’s LLC.
Personal
I am the proud father of six wonderful children and have been blessed with the greatest partner as my wife for over 20 years.
